Announcement!

Happy holiday season!

Are you already as busy as I am trying to keep up with this season’s never-ending to do list?

During the holidays I’m going to be taking a break from the blog and will also be focusing some time after the busy holiday season to rework the site and the types of posts you’ll see from marlo does hair. At this time there is no official timeline of when the blog will be back up and running but I will still be active on facebook where I will post updates about the blog progress as I begin to tackle that huge project. If you need to reach me you can find me on my facebook, behind the chair at Eleven West Salon & Spa or email (which will be occasionally checked).

Thank you for the support over the years and I’m so excited to spend some time bringing you an even better marlo does hair! Make sure to “like” so you see updates and inspirational pictures plus I’ll still be pinning away.
P.S. Don’t forget to tweet me @marlo_does_hair too!

Inspiration

Here’s a few images of my favorite fall inspiration this year. I’m totally loving copper-hued, fiery red hair and deep, chocolate-cherry lipsticks. Have you been thinking about changing up your haircolor or makeup for fall/winter? What other trends are you loving on right now?

Stay safe and warm from Sandy on this chilly Tuesday!

Inspiration

This fall, the weather calls for warm, copper reds with cinnamon and nutmeg hued dimension. Big volume pairs well with nude-toned eyes and nails for nearly everybody. I tend to gravitate towards neutral tone makeup in the colder months, what about you?

Happy Monday!

Tutorial : Textured Ponytail

Hands up, who’s ready to chop off long locks after these crazy heat waves?! I’ve been experimenting with different ponytails in an attempt to stay sane in the heat but also not have the same hair look every day. Added bonus - this textured pony also works with frizz, so style on!

1. Prep hair with a beach spray or texturizing product to enhance any natural texture and movement possible, I like Redken Wool Shake and Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray. Backcomb hair in the crown to desired volume, pull hair back into ponytail. Allow bits to hang free around your face or pull it all back, depending on the look you want to achieve. I also pinned back the majority of my bangs.
2. Move a bit of hair forward to cover up the bobby pin in your bangs and secure with a headband. I chose a simple (and cheap!) black headband and tucked it into my hair. Grab a small section of hair in the ponytail that will cover your elastic, and twist.
3. Hi, twisted section! Wrap your twist around your elastic and secure from the underneath with two bobby pins, remember to place them in an ‘x’ to lock them in place!
4. Finish by touching up any curls by wrapping around a 1” or larger (depending on how long your hair is) curling iron and finish with your favorite hairspray. I finished with Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Harder for long lasting hold and humidity protection.

Super easy and a bit of a change from your typical pony. Bonus - this could even go to the office! Do you change up your ponytail looks often or stick to tried and true looks?

Healthy Sexy Hair Beach Spray Review

Beach waves are one of my all-time favorite summertime styles, especially on medium and long locks. I love experimenting with different texture and beach-inspired hair products, especially in spring and summer. One of my all-time favorite products is Redken Wool Shake, a texturizer that I use to enhance my natural waves/barely curl texture. I’m always looking to try curl products that won’t leave hair crunchy, but promises movement - like the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray

The Soy Renewal Beach Spray is a hardworking multi-use product able to be put on damp or dry hair. On damp hair you will see soft, touchable texture that will appear either by air drying or drying with a diffuser. Use on dry hair to give added volume and detail.

What it does: Gives soft, touchable beach waves and volume that wont zap hair of moisture thanks to argon oil and hydrolyzed soy protein to rebuild damaged strands. Expect your hair to feel a little “gritty” like it would at the beach like with salt water, a key ingredient in soy renewal beach spray is sea salt.

Who it’s for: Any hair type, but results will vary based on your own natural texture. Works best on strands with a little wave to loose curls, straight locks will see very loose beach texture typically. Try on medium and long lengths for typical beach waves or on shorter lengths for added volume.

Give it a try, you can pick it up from me at Eleven West Salon & Spa. In stock now are the mini sizes (only $2 to try!) or the full-size version. I originally picked up a mini size to try and have used it 3 times, only one third of the bottle is gone (and I use a lot!). Definitely a good value and a great way to give a new product a try.
